Ramallah-20/6/2014: A group of Palestinian security forces attacked journalists and prevented them to cover a march organized by Hamas Movement to support prisoners, who launched a hunger strike in Israeli prisons, after the Friday's prayers in Hebron city today.
Routers photographer, Yousri al-Jaml, told MADA that Palestinian Security Forces dispersed the march, and all journalists were prevented to cover what's going on. That is, they prevented all journalists who continued covering and attacked them as what happened with CNN's crew and Pal Media Cameraman Yousef Shahin.
The correspondent of CNN, Pen Wedenan, told MADA that he was covering a march while he was accompanying the cameraman Kareem Khader and the Producer. While he was covering the march, he heard a plainclothes security officer saying:"Take the camera from the journalist.".He tried to warn the cameraman Mr.khader while a security officer was trying forcibly to take his camera .Mr.Wedenan added:"While we were trying to restore the camera security forces were forcibly pulling it; thus,it was divided into two parts. Security forces also pushed and shouted at us .".
the correspondent of Al-Quds TV told MADA that journalist Mamdouh Hamamra covered the first events of the march, but when security forces tried to suppress protesters , we were attacked to prevent us from covering what's going on. I saw them while they were attacking Mr.Shahin;they broke the camera of CNN while they were trying to confiscate. They prevented my colleagues, Hazem Bader and Iyad Hamad, from covering.
MADA center condemns this extra attack on press freedom and demands an investigation on this violation to hold accountable the responsible of those attacks. MADA demands to stop all attacks on journalists and peaceful protesters regardless of their political affiliations.
