Ramallah -13/ 6/2014: MADA, Palestinian Center for Media Development and freedoms, welcomes the decision of prime minister, Rami Al-Hamdallah , yesterday ,to constitute an investigation committee on the attacks against journalists occurred on Wednesday 10/6/2014 at Ramallah city center while they were covering a security forces trial to break up a women set-in .
MADA demanded two days ago in its press release to constitute an investigation committee on those attacks and held accountable those responsible for attacks on journalists .
Mousa Rimawi, the general director of MADA, said that the extensive attacks on journalists happened reminds us of the attacks happened in the first months and days after Palestinian division which its terrible anniversary will be two days later. What raises query and anger is how these violations increased after the conciliation agreement, after the constitution of national government; attacks dramatically increased since signing Al-Shatee agreement, especially since the beginning of this month, there were more than 20 Palestinian violations of media freedoms.
Mr. Rimawi added that we should not allow the return to the period prevailed after Palestinian division by joining the efforts of all media organizations ,journalists, freedoms committee, civil community organizations and all whom are concerned to preserve freedoms, especially freedom of expression. Thus, it is required from all security forces in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to abide the Palestine Basic Law which guarantees freedom of expression.
On the other hand , MADA condemns threats and pressures of Israeli authorities against Al-Ayyam company which lead to prevented the printing of "Felsteen" ,"Al-Resallah" and "Al-Estklal" newspapers two days ago.
MADA demands the international community to keep pressure on Israeli authorities to stop their butt in internal Palestinian affairs related to media freedom. Its notable that these newspapers were issued in Gaza and reprinted in the West Bank since the Israeli prevention of passing them across Rafah crossing.
