On Saturday 1 June 2014, Dubai TV’s correspondent Bassam Al-Madhoun was assaulted and robbed by unidentified people.

Al-Madhoun reported to MADA that he was walking in a street adjacent to Al-Azhar University, in Gaza city, at around 9:00pm when two unknown individuals attacked him from behind and stole his laptop. Al-Madhoun added that the previous day he had written comments on his Facebook page criticizing some actions of the government in Gaza but that he did not know if the assault was related to that. He noticed that the attackers did not try and steal his wallet and cell phone.

Al-Madhoun also reported that he had submitted an official complaint to the police and is waiting for the results of the investigation.

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemn  this assault and strongly demands an impartial investigation and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
