Ramallah- 9th February 2014: the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) conducted the first information workshop for Media students at Al Najah National University in Nablus, as part of MADA’s continues work to promote freedom of expression and opinion in Palestine.

The President of the Media Faculty at the University, Dr. Abdul Karim Sarhan welcomed MADA’s team, stressing the importance of holding such workshops that intersect directly with students' future careers, and will be complementary to their university courses.

MADA’s team introduced the students to the new action “Defending Freedom of Expression and opinion through a healthy legal environment”, which will be implemented by MADA and is funded by the European Union Commission. MADA began implementing the project with the start of 2014. The team also introduced MADA’s work in the field of monitoring media freedoms violations, legal aid for journalists, promoting freedom of expression among Palestinians, and media development in Palestine. During the workshop the team discussed the concept of freedom of expression and media freedoms status in Palestine.

MADA will conduct more information workshops for media students at other Universities in the West Bank and Gaza, and will implement the new action over the next two years working with different stakeholders in order to promote the right of freedom of expression in Palestine and the defense of journalists.
