Ramallah – 18th November 2013: the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) launched its 3rd year World Day campaign to End Impunity of the aggressors on freedom of expression, with the support of the UNESCO office in Ramallah.

The campaign aims to support those who were abused for expressing their views by perpetrators who were not held accountable; it also aims to raise awareness about the importance of holding freedom of expression offenders accountable, as a prerequisite to reduce these crimes. MADA will focus during the campaign on the violations committed against journalists in Palestine, and will display a real lifetime stories about impunity, in addition to a media campaign.

It is noteworthy that the International network for Freedom of Expression (IFEX), which includes more than 80 institution engaged in the defense of freedom of expression, including MADA, has decided at its general meeting in Beirut in 2011 to announce November 23rd of each year as the International Day to end impunity, which marks the anniversary of the Ampatuan massacre in 2009, where 58 people were killed, including 32 journalists in the Philippines, and those responsible for the massacre have not hold accountable until this day. This day is devoted to demand justice for those who have been targeted for exercising their right to freedom of expression, and to shed light on the issue of impunity.
