Ramallah – 8th May 2013: The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) demand Hamas government  in Gaza to publish the results of the inquiry commission that they set up, and announcing of holding accountable all involved members of the security forces who detained and assaulted five journalists, while covering a solidarity protest organized by the Popular Front, yesterday evening in the city of Khan Younis in the southern of the Gaza Strip.
 
Image Agency photographer Eyad Elbaba reported to MADA that the journalists received an invitation to cover the solidarity protest following the Israeli aggression on Syria, in Khan Younis around 6 pm on the 7th May 2013, and after a quarter of an hour into the protest members of the security forces surrounded everyone and began shouting at the demonstrators to break up the protest. Then he and 4 of his colleagues were arrested; the photojournalist Adham Abu Shahma, Al Miadan TV cameraman Abd El Aziz Alafifi and its correspondent Ahmed Ghanem, Palestine Today TV cameraman Mohamed AbuTaha. 
 
Elbaba added: “they put us in a asmal police car and treated us like criminals, and they attacked us with punches, and detained us at the center of detectives for two hours, and then we met detective officer  who apologized for what happened to us and then released us. What happened was a big insult for us." 
In addition a number of protestors at the event were exposed to this attack as well, and some were injured.
 
MADA condemns the attacks on journalists in its various forms, and stresses that the officials apology must be accompanied by holding the aggressors accountable, because impunity encourages further abuses in the future.
