MADA participates in the 63th World Newspaper Congress and the 18th World’s Editors Forum in Vienna
A delegation from the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA), including General Director Mousa Rimawi, participated in the 63th World Newspaper Congress and the 18th World’s Editors Forum in Vienna.
The congress, which was conducted over five days, discussed numerous issues relating to written media, with particular focus on social media platforms, Wiki leaks, the effect of the global economic crises, and the effect of restrictions on freedom of expression on media development.
Explicit attention was given to the impact of the Arab Spring on media in Egypt and Tunisia, which had suffered severe restrictions on media freedoms for decades.
A session was also held on “How to tell the truth during the revolution?”. A number of successful models for newspapers and magazines were reviewed in one of the congress sessions particularly from the southern hemisphere.
The conference was attended by more than a thousand editors, journalists, information technology experts, officials in media companies, representatives of online media sources and human rights organizations active in the defense of freedom of the press across the world. The General Assembly meeting for the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) was held in addition to the WAN-IFRA expo exhibition, which included many other events.
