MADA Center and the Institute of Law hold workshop in GAZA
Ramallah- MADA- 3 March 2011: The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) and Birzeit University’s Institute of Law held its “Freedom of Expression from Legal and Media Perspectives" workshop in cooperation with Alazhar University’s Faculty of Law in Gaza.
MADA announced that 53 students attended the workshop where participants posed numerous important questions, demonstrating their awareness and interest in the subject.

Speakers included Adel Alza’noun, who discussed media work and ethics, and promoted press power as an ethical, inspired and academic force. Tawfeq Abu Shomor, the former director of the publication and press department in the Ministry of Information, discussed press and publication law, which is comprised of 50 articles. In addition, the dean of the faculty law in Alazhar University discussed the offences relating to journalists in penal code law, noting that the penal code in Gaza differs from West Bank and the existence of campaigns demanding one law be applied to both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
