MADA: The closure of the journalist’s syndicate headquarters in Gaza is a flagrant violation of freedom of expression

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemns the closure of the Palestinian  Journalist’s Syndicate headquarter in Gaza strip, today noon, 12 October 2010, by the internal security service in the dismissed government.


A secretariat member in the syndicate Yousif Alostaz said that a group identified themselves as members in the internal security service, came to the syndicate headquarter in Gaza Strip and informed the journalists whose were there, that the headquarters is closed until further notice. He added that they weren’t having any decision from court or from the General Attorney, and they also said that they will summon the syndicate board member soon".

MADA center considers the closure as a flagrant violation of freedom of expression, and freedom of journalists syndicate work. And calls the dismissed government to reopen the syndicate headquarter, and to allow the journalists to do their syndicate and professional work freely and safety. MADA also calls for resolving the problems inside the syndicate though dialogue.
