The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) held a workshop for journalists about “Freedom of Expression in the International and Palestinian legislations".  The workshop took place in Hebron city in the West Bank, and held in cooperation with foundation for future as a part of series of workshops which will include major cities in West Bank and Gaza Strip, in order to increase the journalist’s awareness in legislations and laws related to freedom of expression, in addition to the discussion of journalists protection mechanism.

The trainer Jihad Harb viewed human rights principles in general, and freedom of opinion and expression, in particular, on the basis of the international charters legislations, and the Palestinian Basic Law. He also discussed the mechanism of journalist’s protection if they subjected any violations.

From her part, MADA’s legal unit lawyer Sana Aranki provided legal advices to the journalists during the workshop and answered their questions. And called all the journalists to contact MADA center in case they were subjected to any violation or harassment. Aranki also emphasized on MADA’s willing to give the journalists free legal advices, and to represent them in courts if it is necessary.

At the end of the workshop, the journalists expressed their gratitude for MADA’s contribution in raising their awareness of legal issues that concern them, and praised MADA’s effective role in shedding light on violations against Palestinian journalists, and monitoring them periodically and publishing them in different media outlets.
