The Palestinian security services renewed journalists arrests policy,
following the suspension of it last month, where Al-Jazeera Net reporter
in Nablus city Waddah Abed al-Karim Eid, was arrested last Thursday (July
17), after he was summoned by the Palestinian Preventive Security Service
in Qalqilya city, he still in detention since that date. His brother said
they did not know the reason of his arrest and had no information about
his situation.
In the same date (July 17), the Preventive Security Service in Bethlehem
arrested Aqsa TV cameraman Osaid Amarneh and released him the same day, he
was detained for 12 hours (from 9 am. -9 pm.), Amarneh said that he was
lengthy questioned about his professional work especially with Aqsa TV.
Amarneh had already been arrested several times by Palestinian security
services, which the latest one was on the fifteenth of last May.
The Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (Mada), as
denouncing the arrest of journalists Amarneh and Eid, is demanding the
release of Eid and to end journalists arrest policy, which is considered a
flagrant violation of freedom of expression, guaranteed by the Palestinian
Basic Law, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
