Mada calls on for the prosecution of those responsible for Al-Sawaf assassination attempt
Despite the positive atmosphere that prevails in the Palestinian arena after the initiative of President Mahmoud Abbas for national dialogue, and initiatives to stop media campaigns between Fatah and Hamas, there has been a serious development on a media freedoms in the Gaza Strip yesterday (Thursday 19 June), when there was a bullet shooting at Felesteen Daily newspaper chief editor Mustafa Al-Sawaf.
Al-Sawaf has confirmed that one was shot at him bullet from an unknown from the opposite building when he was sitting in his office in the newspaper headquarter in Gaza City , and the bullet broke the window glass, and passed few centimeters away from him.
It is noteworthy to mention that, Al-Sawaf received threatening sms letter to kill him on 31 last August, two employees of Felesteen newspaper (Suleiman Al-Ashie and Mohammed Abdu) were killed by Palestinian gunmen in May 2007.
The Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (Mada) extend congratulations to colleague Al-Sawaf, for his escape from of assassination attempt, strongly condemns this crime, and demands the security agencies to prosecute the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
