Mada: Qatalouni arrest is a new attack on Palestinian journalists

The Israeli occupation forces arrested freelance journalist Musa"ab Husam
Qatalouni (25 years), where they raided his family house this morning
(Tuesday 15 July) in Nablus city. Qatalouni said the soldiers invaded the
house at about 1.30 am. After strong knocking on the door, they searched
it and confiscated a computer set and some documents then arrested him and
his father Nablus municipal council member Husam Qatalouni. He was
transferred to Hewara military camp south of Nablus, where he was
questioned for two hours about his journalistic work, and his social life,
he was released at eight o"clock pm.

This new attack on media freedoms is part of the continued Israeli
attacks on Palestinian journalists, which is witnessing an escalation
since last month, where five journalists and media men were arrested
last month (Mohammed Al-Qieq, Fuad Frroukh, Rami Hajahjeh, Nobl Nabeel,
Mohammed Marbua"), Three of them were released, two still arrested
(Farroukh and Al-Qieq), while two journalists were arrested last May
(Ashraf Kafarneh and Hassan Al-Rajoub), Kafarneh was released and Rajoub
remained imprison. in addition to journalists who were arrested last
year and current year.

Mada condemns Qatalouni arrest, who was released in last May, following
detention lasted 77 days by the Palestinian intelligence service, demands
the international institutions concerned with human rights and especially
active in the defense of freedom of opinion and expression, to exercise
pressure on the Israeli government to stop its attacks on the Palestinian
media, and to release all journalists detained in its prisons.
