Principles for organizing satellite channels in the Arab world charter, is dangerous on freedom of opinion and expression

Palestinian Center for development and Media Freedoms (Mada), and AMIN Media Network/Internews in Palestine express concerns about the media freedom situation in the Arab world, after the release of (principles for organizing satellite channels in the Arab world) charter adopted by council of Arab Ministers of information on the 12th of February 2008., and consider it new attempt to impose their official point of view on satellite channels, and dangerous on freedom of opinion and expression.

The document including 13 terms would enable the Arab governments to close or suspend and interfere in the contents of the TV Channels programs.

Both AMIN and Mada appreciate the position of Qatar and Lebanon, towards the document, .and express their refusal of this miserable attempt to impose restrictions on satellite Channels.

The two organizations demanded:
The Arab ministers of information to set back from articles which restrict freedom of opinion and expression especially No. 1 and N0 2 of the fifth clause.
The PNA to reserve ftom this document, until erasing the articles, which violate the public liberties in Arabic countries.
