The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) welcomes the decision of Dr. Salam Fayyad Government to cancel the suspension of the work of Al-Jazeera TV, last night. a statement issued by the office of Dr. Fayyad,
said " from the position of the national authority craving of for the public freedoms, journalistic and media work, and after consultation with a number of legal advisers, and to allow the judicial proceedings to take its natural course and without prejudice to the rights, I issued a decision to halt the suspension of work of the Aljazeera office in Palestine, and allow the office to carry on its work as usual."
The Palestinian Authority issued a decision last Wednesday (15 July) suspended the work of Al-Jazeera TV in the West Bank, and filed a lawsuit against it in the background of broadcasting a news report on Farouq Qaddumi declarations.
MADA demands the Palestinian National Authority to drop the lawsuit filed against Al jazeera TV in pretext of incitement, sedition promotion, and the publication of false news and, as the trial of Aljazeera, would lead to increased concerns among journalists and the media outlets, and the enhance of self-censorship, which already spread in the Palestinian territories, and which is exacerbated in the last three years, especially as Aljazeera news report was objective and neutral.
MADA reiterate its call for respect of freedom of opinion and expression in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which is guaranteed in Palestinian Basic Law, the Printing and Publishing Law, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
