The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemns the attack on Quds TV correspondent Mohammed Zuhdi Mashharawi (23 years), by Palestinian police in Gaza city, yesterday (10 June). Masharawi said that he was covering the visit of Qatari delegation to the Shifa Hospital in Gaza city, at about 12 am, when he was informed by the hospital administration the visit cover will be limited to one television channel. There had been a discussion between him and the hospital administration about this matter, and then the police personnel to the security of the hospital intervened and told him, he is prohibited from covering. An altercation sparked with them, where that is not their competence, then they attacked him and detained him in the security room inside the hospital for one hour. Later he made a protest to the Police Department, which has promised to investigate the incident, then they had offered him an apology on the night, and stressed that the attack was individual act. On other hand, MADA condemns the arrest of Dr. Farid Abdul-Fattah Abu Dher (47 years), Director of Alnajah Press Office and lecturer in media Section in the Alnajah University. His wife said that the security forces cordoned off the house yesterday in the city of Nablus at about 3:00 pm, and then they knocked on the door, and when she opened it they asked about her husband, she said he is inside the house; they asked her to call for him. During that time his son Bara was returning home, and asked them about the matter, they attacked and detained him in one of their cars, and then they arrested Dr. Abu Dher and released his son. MADA condemns the attack on Mashharawi and the arrest of Dr. Abu Dher, it demands the cessation of attacks on journalists, including the release of detainees.
