The continued confiscation of Abu Oun passport is serious breach of freedom of expression and movement

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemns the contiuetied confiscation of Sakher Medhat Abu Oun (44 years), AFP office head and the chief of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate in Gaza passport, by the internal security service, which belongs to the Interior Ministry in the dismissed government, Since 21 March 2009, which prevented him to travel today (April 8), to participate in “Break the Restrictions" conference, in the Bahraini capital Al- Manamah.

 Abu Oun said that he tried to regain his passport during the last days, in order to be able to travel, to participate in the above-mentioned conference, which will discuss the press freedoms in the world. He contacted a number of officials in the Gaza Strip, but to no avail, in addition Eden White, general secretary of the International Federation of Journalists contacted officials in the dismissed government, but they did not respond positively to his request.

 MADA considers this procedure as serious breach of freedom of expression and movement, which are gruanted in the Palestinian Basic Law, and articles 19 and 13 of the International Declaration of Human Rights, and renews the demand to return Abu Oun passport to him, so that he can travel and move freely. .
