Mechanisms and preparations for adopting the RTI law were discussed
Ramallah (03/10/2016) - The Minister of Justice, Mr. Ali Abu Diak received a delegation of Coalition on the Right to Access Information “KHABIRNI;
and discussed the preparation and adoption of access to information law in Palestine .
The delegation included the General Director of the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms "MADA" Mousa Rimawi, lecturer of media Saleh Masharaqah / Media Development Center at Birzeit University, Media and Communication Coordinator Nadine Saify / Coalition for Accountability and Integrity "Aman", and finally public relations officer and head of monitoring Unit Ghazi Bani Odeh/ MADA Center.
Furthermore, they discussed the preparations and mechanisms for approving the draft law (Right to Access Information), which is a fundamental human right and that is in line with the obligations of the State of Palestine in accordance with international treaties that has been ratified by Palestine.
Thus, it was agreed during the meeting to discuss the final draft of the law (Right to Access Information) through holding consultative meetings to agree and reach a consensus on all issues and points of contention, particularly to have the “exceptions” part in particular, clear structure and plain language, after receiving comments from all interested parties and the government, toward reaching a resolution and an agreement on a final version of the draft, and accordingly to be presented to the Council of Minsteries for discussion and adoption.
Minister of Justice Ali Abu Diak assured that the adoption of Palestinian law on the right to access information, is a national achievement, taking into consideration the international standards, /and the privacy of the Palestinian people under occupation, adding that the Prime Minister promised to approve the law draft as soon as it is presented to Palestinian Council of Ministers before the end of the year.
