Ramallah- 05 June, 2016: The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms “MADA” wrapped up three days of training workshop, on–“Right to access information – Advocacy/social media” for 32 journalists across the West Bank, funded by the representative office of Finland in Ramallah.

 

And another workshop for 20 journalists in Gaza Strip/ Adam Hotel 

  

 

 

 

Throughout the workshop in Jericho,  Mr. Abdelrazeq Ghazal- training officer at the Women’s Center for legal aid and counselling- WCLAC, and Luna Ereikat Legal Advisor, on the second day Mr Nabeel Dwekat media officer, the workshop addressed various aspects regarding access to information and mechanisms of advocacy ,participants were divided into groups in order to plan advocacy campaigns and press conferences that aims to engage them in promoting the right to access information and the importance of enacting a Palestinian law.

 

 

On the third day the workshop started with the trainer Nadeem Is’eed on social networking and advocacy,throughout the workshop the trainers contacted the activist Rima Harakeh from Lebanon who spoke about the campaign " Tal’at Rihtkm "which received a huge success, Omar Abdel Lat who is a known cartoonist ( Awad  ) whey shared their own experiences on social networking sites , which claimed a lot of success , also Mahmoud Hureibat participated in the training on advocacy mechanisms and what are the pros and cons of social media and how to keep professional and objective as a journalist.

 

The general director of the Center Mousa Rimawi started the workshop with a brief about MADAs’ programs that aim to promote freedom of expression and development in society and Palestinian media; he also focused on the need to enact a Palestinian law on the right to access information.

 

During the workshop in Gaza Dr. Ahmad Hammad opened the session in a brief about MADA’s programs that aim to enhance freedom of expression and opinion in general and media freedoms in particular, and highlighted the importance of enacting a Palestinian law, on the right to access information.

Both Dr . Zuhair Abed, Dean of the Faculty of Information at the University of Al-Aqsa and Dr.Amin Waffi  media assistant professor at the Islamic University in Gaza.

 

These workshops are part of MADA’s efforts in building capacities of journalists and engaging them in promoting the right to access information through social media.

 

Lastly, all participants expressed their complete contentment, of the training level and how valuable it was, they greeted MADA on their efforts and for carrying out this beneficial training and demanded for more training courses and workshops that aims to build their capacities and raise awareness in media freedoms field.
