Ramallah-19/4/2016  the Palestinian Minister of Justice Mr. Ali Abu Dyak, received a delegation from The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms “MADA” headed by the general director of the Center Mousa Rimawi, where they discussed mutual cooperation that aims to enshrine the principle of partnership between the public sector and civil society institutions, moreover, the meeting highlighted all recent progresses and enactment of several laws and  draft laws ,related to press and media, particularly the Higher Council of Media , Right to Access Information in addition to intellectual property, and the significant role of the ministry of justice to support and push forward into enacting these laws, rather than all MADAs’ efforts at this level in cooperation with civil society institutions.

 

Minister Abu Dyak stressed the importance of partnership with civil society and welcomed the cooperation with the “MADA”, and the keenness of the ministry and the government on the adoption of modern laws in various fields in order to serve the Palestinian society, and the significance of passing laws that guarantee all rights from violating through covering gaps in few aspects.

 

Minister Abu Dyak, also gave few observations regarding the facts that impeded the enactment of the “right to access information, Law”, and most prominently that the draft lacks any article or text, that focus on the Protection of confidential documents or at least that regulates the flow of information whether disclosing or making it available, since there is not any specific or separate law that focus on “protecting  confidential documents”, and the need to address this gap, stressing the importans of this law and others for Palestinian people.

 

 

Rimawi pointed out that the secretariat that follow-up on the higher council of Media law- which was stopped from publishing following a decision by the President and prime minister- will present a new draft of the law, and will be submitted to the cabinet, following an agreement with the Deputy Prime Minster Dr. Ziad Abu Amro, during a meeting held with the secretariat  in February.

 

Rimawi also highlighted that "MADA " and The Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science are planning to organize a conference about Intellectual Property, in cooperation with all concerned governmental  and SCOs parties, a move that aims to shed light on this significant right, and discuss all aspects related to it, and ways of guaranteeing and protecting this right, specially that it is exposed to violations on a large scale.

Lastly, both sides agreed to continue cooperation, especially on common interest issues that aims and to serve our people and build our state.
