Ramallah- 22/03/2016 The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms received officials from several Consulates and representative offices in Ramallah (Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and the EU Representative) in its office in Ramllah today, where they met the General Director of the Center Mr. Mousa Rimawi, and project Coordinator Razan Namari, and discussed the status of freedoms of expression in Palestine and the challenges confronted due to all prominent issues regarding the political situation.
Mr. Rimawi welcomed the delegations and presented MADAs’ annual report about violations of media freedom during 2015, which reached new peak last year, where Israel occupation forces committed 407violation, and Palestinian sides in west Bank and Gaza strip committed 192 violations.
He also talked about the recent Israeli attack against media freedoms, where they closed “Palistine Tody” TV and “Trans Media” in addition of arresting several journalists and media workers.
Regarding the media legal environment Rimawi explained most recent development of media laws and draft laws, and emphasized on the need of modern media laws in Palestine which supposed to be in line with the international standards, and it is essential know Palestinians to take a serious step after ratifying around 40 International treaties (ICCPR, ICESCR,CAT, CEDAW,CRC, etc…), and stressed on the importance of partnership between the government and civil society organizations.
