“MADA”: the President and prime minister agreed to not publish the Higher Council of Media Law

Ramallah-21st  of January 2016- the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms “MADA” announce that the Palestinian President-Mahmud Abbas and Prime Minster Dr. Rami Hamdallah agreed to not  publish  the  Higher Council of Media Law, as a result of the lobbying and advocacy of NGOs, journalists and human right activates, in addition to the Department of Culture and Information of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which all participated the open meeting that organized by MADA, on Monday, 18th of January 2016.

Hence, Dr. Hannan Ashrawi- the Culture and Information Department of PLO Chairman - talked to the Palestinian President-Mahmud Abbas- and Prime Minster- Dr. Rami Hamdallah  who agreed to not publish  the law in the official newspaper (if its published it became  effective).

 

 Moreover, it was agreed to organize a meeting, between the Prime Minster and the concerned NGOs, to discuss the topic (Higher Council of Media) , and to agree to present another new draft of the law, which can actually meet the desired objectives of the council, as well as meeting the ambitions of Palestinian people and media, in addition to be in line with the International Conventions.
