On the International Right to Know Day

Khabbirni coalition calls for the adoption of the Access to Information law

Ramallah- On the 28th December, the world celebrates the International Right to Know Day to enhance transparency, to enable the citizens to access information regarding public affairs and to limit rumors which are being dramatically spread in Palestine as a result of the absence of information and facts.

The member countries of the United Nations will adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its  recent session that is being held nowadays, including  access to information  text, where  the proposed text states: " ensure public access to information and protect the fundamental freedoms, in accordance with the national legislation and international agreements.”

Nowadays, more than 100 countries adopted the access to information laws; where Sweden was the first to adopt in 1766. Now, it is the time for the Palestine to join these countries; where the need of this law for the Palestinians who seek freedom and independence is no less than the needs of other nations for it. Probably the Palestinians need it more than any other nation in the absence of the Parliament since 2006, and in the absence of any positive signs to end the internal division that left serious negative impacts on the Palestinian people and their just issue.

We at the Defending Access to Information coalition “Khabbirni” call to adopt the law as soon as possible, so that the citizens would be able to actively contribute in the public life, enhancing the integrity and fighting corruption, besides, helping the government in openness to the people.

The constituent bodies:
