Three-day training on media campaigns through social media

Ramallah- 7.31.2015: The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) wrapped up yesterday a three-days training course for journalists from different cities in the West Bank on the optimal ways to implement media campaigns through social media.

MADA’s General Director Mr. Mousa Rimawi opened the training, giving a summary on MADA’s work and the violations against journalists and media freedoms in Palestine, as well as the work of the center’s legal unit.

Rimawi talked about access to information and its importance of it for the citizens and especially the journalists; pointing out to the effort made by MADA and the other interested organizations, especially the alliance of defending access to information that had been formed lately in addition to the Anti-Corruption Commission to approve the law.

On the first day of the training, the trainer Sa’ed Karazoun presented the concept and the objectives of the social media websites as well as explaining Facebook and how to create digital content. Karazoun presented some Facebook pages and talked about the strength and the weakness points in each of them, later, he gave advices and technics to create a good digital content.

The participants were divided into groups and each group discussed and created their own digital content for Facebook and a promoting plan. At the end of the training the results were presented and discussed.

On the second day the Danish volunteer at MADA Layal Freije presented the Danish experience in the digital media with its negative and positive aspects. Following her presentation, Karazoun presented Google and the best technics to use it regarding designing a digital survey on people’s opinions.

Karazoun also presented Youtube and the methods to promote a campaign through it; he also talked about the use of smartphones while implementing an advocacy campaign

On the final day (third day) Karazoun talked about infographics and its importance for social media; he also talked about planning for social media campaigns.

The participants produced numerous promoting materials for a campaign that will be launched on Sunday, in which all the participant will take part of it, acknowledging that they all were divided into 3 groups; and each group will implement a series of duties according to what they have learnt through this training
