The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) wrapped up a two-day training workshop on freedom of expression for media students of Al-Aqsa University at Allatirna training hall in Gaza, yesterday 12/5/2015.

 The workshop which targeted 25 media students, aimed to raise the students’ awareness about the subjects related to freedom of expression and its status in Palestine, as well as the negative impact of the violations on the media and the society development.

On the first day, the trainer presented international and national concepts of freedom of expression and its status in Palestine. And on the second day, the trainer presented media laws, legal protection for journalists and privacy rules. He explained the work of the judiciary and the rules of media coverage of judiciary news as well as the right to access information.

The participants thanked MADA and praised their effort for conducting this useful training, which is a part of the project of “Defending freedom of expression and opinion through a healthy legal environment” and funded by the European Union. The participants said that the training enhanced their capabilities to perfectly implement their profession as journalists.

At the end of the training certificates were handed to all students who participated in it; which is a part of a training series that MADA started implementing in the West Bank and Gaza Strip since last year.

The trainers of this workshop were the media lecturer at Al-Aqsa University Dr. Nabeel Al-Tahrawi and the journalism lecturer at Al-Islamiyye University Dr.Jawad Al-Dalow.
