Ramallah- 13 January 2015: The Head of the High Judicial council Mr. Ali Muhanna welcomed a delegation from the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) yesterday, headed by the General Director Mousa Rimawi. The meeting was to discuss mutual cooperation in order to enhance freedom of expression status in Palestine.
Mr. Ali Muhanna welcomed MADA’s team and praised the worked accomplished by the center, emphasizing that the effort done by the center during the last years did enhance its objective and made a real positive change. Muhanna also emphasized the importance of journalists’ awareness of law; since being aware of law makes them know the limits as well as freedom of expression limits; therefore, it protects them.
He also emphasized the importance of enhancing general freedoms, especially freedom of expression for its benefits to the whole Palestinian society. As well as the importance of collaboration between MADA and other interested sides, especially justice sector. Mr. Muhanna talked about the steps the High Judicial council started making in order to achieve this goal.
On the other side, Mr. Mousa Rimawi thanked Mr. Muhanna for receiving MADA’s team and for his willing to enhance the cooperation, as well as the steps and the positive attitudes of him and the judicial council to enhance freedom of expression.
Rimawi also presented about MADA’s field of work and the programs the center works on; which are focused on developing media sector and enhancing freedom of expression. He also talked about legal training for journalists and media students through the workshops; which the center has been working on for years. Rimawi also talked about expanding the cooperation between the center and other sectors, especially the High Judicial Council; where the center held a training workshop for 12 judges on subjects related to freedom of expression in the last year. He also emphasized the importance of a continuous cooperation.
Both parties have agreed to cooperate on issues of common interest.
