Ramallah, 24/11/2014 - The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) has released a reportage dealing with the widespread phenomenon of self-censorship among Palestinian journalists and media outlets, and examining its impact.

This reportage was realized in the framework of the campaign that MADA is running to limit self-censorship. Recently, the center has also published a study showing that 80% of interviewed journalists practice self-censorship in their work.

MADA’s General Director Mr. Musa Rimawi pointed out that the spread of self-censorship seriously affect the quality of Palestinian journalism, in addition to hampering freedom of expression and the citizens’ right to information. He explained that self-censorship obstructs the role that journalism must play in a democratic society.

Rimawi added that this campaign is part of a series of activities that MADA is implementing to limit self-censorship and increase the level of professionalism of Palestinian journalists.
