Ramallah – 9th December 2013: Prime Minister Dr. Rami Alhamdallah and government spokesman Dr Ihab Bseiso met a delegation from the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) this morning, in the framework of MADA’s efforts to enact the right to access information law and the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which falls tomorrow.

MADA’s delegation consisted of the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ghazi Hanania, the general manager Mousa Rimawi, and the public relations officer Riham Abu Aita. They provided the prime minister with an overview of the center's work in the framework of media development and freedoms, which included the center's efforts in the preparation of the access to information draft law. They also discussed the status of media freedoms in Palestine, especially in the West Bank.

Dr. Alhamdallah confirmed that the government is working on the access to information draft law for its enactment is very valuable to all parties, and because it will ensure the freedom of the press in Palestine, and will infuse the spirit of transparency and accountability in the Palestinian public institutions.

Dr Ihab Bseiso stated that "The right to access to information law enhances the concept of transparency and integrity, as well as upholding media freedoms, and in return the institutions of civil society must get involved hands on with the government to implement the law, not only government institutions, but also private institutions."
