Ramallah – 24th Feb. 2026 – The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms, “MADA” strongly condemns the decision issued by the Israeli Minister of Security, Yisrael Katz, which classifies several Palestinian digital media outlets in Jerusalem that cover Jerusalem-related affairs as what he described as “arms of Hamas”. These outlets include Al-Quds Agency, Al-Bawsala, Quds Press, and Meiraj.
This decision constitutes a serious escalation and a direct attack on press freedom and Palestinian media work. It represents a clear attempt to criminalize independent journalism and restrict the Palestinian digital space, threatening the public’s right to freely access and disseminate information.
As a result of this decision, Al-Quds Agency has been forced to suspend all its media activities until further notice, an unprecedented measure that reflects the extent of pressures and violations faced by Palestinian media, particularly in Jerusalem.
“MADA” emphasizes that labeling media institutions without a fair and transparent legal basis constitutes a blatant violation of international human rights law and international standards guaranteeing freedom of expression and press freedom. It entrenches a policy of silencing Palestinian media voices and pursuing journalists and media institutions.
Accordingly, “MADA” calls on the international community, human rights organizations, and media freedom bodies to intervene urgently to pressure for the cessation of these measures, ensuring the protection of Palestinian media institutions and enabling them to perform their professional role without intimidation or restrictions.
“MADA” also reiterates its full solidarity with the targeted media outlets and affirms its commitment to continue documenting these violations and advocating for press freedom as a fundamental pillar of democratic society and an inalienable right.
