The training was held as part of the project “We Heard It on the Radio: Amplifying Young Journalists’ Voices to Advocate for Freedom of Expression and Human Rights”, implemented by MADA in partnership with Oxfam and with the support of the Belgian Development Cooperation.

The five-day training took place at the premises of Nisaa FM Radio, between the Nisaa Media Incubator and the radio studios, and was attended by 24 male and female students. The program was supervised and delivered by the Head of the Training Department at Nisaa FM, journalist MUHANNAD AL-ADAM, with active participation from the Nisaa FM team, including Mr. IHAB MUFARREH and broadcaster AYA SAMIR.

The first two days covered media fundamentals, journalistic storytelling, freedom of the media, and human rights, in addition to the concept of community media and the role of journalism as a tool for accountability and the protection of human rights. The training also addressed professional ethics, news editing skills, news bulletin writing, newsroom simulations, identification of news elements and news values, bulletin structure and sequencing, as well as the preparation of short bulletins and practical training in radio news reading.

On the third day, the trainer presented mechanisms for formulating and preparing interview questions, methods for managing radio dialogue, conducting interviews, and recording short interviews. The fourth day focused on writing news reports and feature stories, electronic publishing, transforming raw audio material into suitable broadcast content, and experimentally and practically uploading reports and stories to the website through applied exercises.

The fifth and final day introduced participants to podcasting, outlining the stages of podcast production and episode preparation, including selecting podcast titles, naming episodes, choosing guests, and preparing interview questions.

Participants expressed the significance of the training, describing it as a pivotal first experience that enabled them to acquire new knowledge and develop practical skills across various fields of media work.
