Ramallah – October 21, 2025 The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) inaugurated a specialized training course this morning, Tuesday, in Ramallah, titled “Enhancing Journalists’ Awareness of the Legal Framework for Their Protection While Covering Corruption Issues”. The course brings together a group of journalists from various Palestinian governorates and media institutions.
Led by DR. AHMAD MUSLEH, the two-day training aims to strengthen journalists’ legal knowledge and empower them to understand the legislative frameworks governing media work. This will enhance their ability to fulfill their supervisory role and report on corruption professionally and with greater legal safety.
The training program includes an introduction to the concept of corruption and the importance of legal literacy for investigative journalists working on corruption cases. It also addresses the risks journalists may face while covering such issues, including how to avoid legal liability when handling sensitive information. The trainer also discussed the dangers associated with using information in investigations, offering guidance on working with anonymous sources and minimizing the risks of misinformation.
The course features practical exercises designed to help journalists avoid legal repercussions, delivered through interactive sessions that explore key laws related to press freedom and legal protection mechanisms for journalists. Participants also discussed the challenges they face when reporting on corruption and explored strategies to mitigate these obstacles.
This training marks the second session organized by MADA as part of an initiative by the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN), within ongoing efforts to foster a legally safe environment for journalistic work and to support media freedom, transparency, and accountability in Palestine.
