8- November 2012: the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information organized by sit-in in solidarity with Palestinian journalists who are subjected to continuous and serious assaults by the Israeli occupation in Ramallah city.
This sit- in comes as part of the global campaign organized by Glopal network for freedom of expression (IFEX), who defends freedom of expression and promote it , and consists of more than 80 members of organizations that shared commitment to defend freedom of expression around the world, including MADA center, in order to end impunity of the aggressors on freedom of expression.
The goal of the sit-in today was to demand accountability of occupation forces on its attacks against Palestinian journalists, and which constitute a flagrant violation of all international laws and conventions, as the impunity of the ongoing occupation practices encourages them to commit more of these serious violations.
Based on the cooperation between MADA center And IFEX network this day was chosen to organize a global campaign to achieve justice for Palestinian photographer Ja’far Ishtayeh, who was attacked several times by the Israeli occupation forces, most recently was yesterday (11.7.2012) while covering the occupation bulldozers demolishing of Palestinian homes in Hares village near Salfeet in West Bank. Where Shtayyeh reported to t MADA that the Israeli occupation forces prevented journalists from coverage and beaten them, and injured photojournalist Nasser Ishtayeh in his legs of the tear gas bomb.
IFEX network had announced in its General Meeting last year that the members chose November 23 as International Day for the end of impunity. A day dedicated to demand justice for those who have been targeted for exercising their right to freedom of expression, and to shed light on the issue of impunity. And to commemorate the anniversary of the Ampatuan massacre in 2009, the deadliest incident for journalists in recent history, where 58 people were killed - including 32 journalists in the Philippines.
