Ramallah – 2nd July 2023 - The members of the International Network for Defending Freedom of Expression (IFEX) elected SHERINE AL-KHATIB, MADA Acting Director, to membership in the Network’s coming Board of Directors for a period of four years, which consists of 13 members from around the world.
The voting results of the nominated members were announced on Thursday 29, corresponding to 29th June 2023, at 4:00PM, Jerusalem time (9:00AM Canadian time) during the annual conference of the Network via Zoom in the Canadian Capital (Toronto).
At the beginning of the Conference, all attendees were welcomed, and the Network’s Financial Report was approved after the audited financial statements for 2022 and related documents were presented, in addition to voting on appointing the Network’s auditor for 2023.
IFEX thanked the ending Board for its efforts during the recent period and welcomed the newly elected members of the Board who won during the presentation of the election results.
The Board consists of a minimum of eight members and a maximum of thirteen members. The members of the Board must represent a variety of experiences, backgrounds, and competencies. All members are elected in their individual capacities and not as representatives of their organizations, and therefore they shall be held responsible in the event of any legal action.
It is noteworthy that the International Network for Defending Freedom of Expression (IFEX) promotes and defends freedom of expression as a basic human right and includes more than 100 organizations that defend freedom of expression and the right of everyone to access information. MADA has been a member of (IFEX) since 2011.
