Ramallah – 27th June 2023 - The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemns the arrest of the reporter and cameraman of "Sanad News Agency" by the occupation forces, MOHAMMED ANWAR MUNA (41 years old), at dawn today, Tuesday, after storming his home in the city of Nablus.
SAWSAN ABU EL-ELA, his wife, stated that the occupation forces raided their house in "Zawata" Area, west of Nablus, northern the West Bank, at around 3:30AM, today, Tuesday, and ordered her to enter a room with her children. They did not search the house or confiscate any of his belongings. After confirming the identity of her husband, the officer interrogated him for a few minutes and then arrested him.
(MADA) Center expresses its condemnation of the persecution of Palestinian journalists, which has clearly intensified during the past days in all regions of the West Bank, and calls for the immediate release of the journalist "MUNA", and calls for an end to these violations against journalists, providing them with protection, and respecting freedom of opinion and expression in the Palestinian territories.
(MADA) Center, while renewing its condemnation of all acts of persecution and various violations targeting journalists as well as attacks targeting media freedoms in Palestine, calls on the international community to put pressure on the government of Israel to stop the infringement of media freedoms, prosecuting journalists and to release the journalist, MUNA immediately. Also to compel Israel to respect the freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by all international conventions and norms, and to treat Palestinian journalists under this framework to ensure respect for freedom of expression in the Palestinian territories.
MADA Center also calls for the perpetrators of attacks on media freedoms to be held accountable, and renews its call for the release of all detainees in Israeli prisons, whose number has increased by arresting the journalist "MUNA" to 21 journalists.
