MADA praises selecting Occupied Jerusalem as the Arab Media Permanent Capital

Ramallah – 26th Dec. 2022 The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) praises the decision of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information to select the occupied city of Jerusalem as the permanent capital of Arab media, with choosing another capital every year.

This decision came during the session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information, which was held yesterday, Monday, in the Libyan Capital, "Tripoli," to emphasize the centrality of the Palestinian Cause and the status of the city of Jerusalem and Palestine in the heart of the Arab Nation.

MADA recognizes the significance of this decision given its impact on encouraging Palestinian journalists to continue delivering their media message despite all the difficulties and obstacles that stand in their way, so as to strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in resisting the occupation by exposing its repressive practices in the media and communicating such to the whole world.

MADA also believes that such a decision rejects what journalists, especially Jerusalemites, are subjected to, in terms of restrictions on media freedoms and narrowing the margin of freedom of expression.

Furthermore, MADA highly supports this decision, which endorses the historical and sentimental status of the occupied Holy City with all its components, including the media, noting that the occupied city of Jerusalem was the capital of Arab media in 2016.
