Journalists from Gaza came together last weekend to undertake training on the judicial system and freedom of opinion and expression in Palestine.

The three day training workshop(23-25 June2012)was organized by the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA).

It was attended by 23 journalists and media representatives from various media  outlets (11 ot them female journalists)  in the Gaza strip.
 
The training sessions focused on the way freedom of opinion and expression are defined under international laws and conventions, the right of access to information, the Palestinian legal and judiciary system and its relation to freedom of expression, the gaps in Palestinian laws , and the reality of media work in the Palestinian territories.

 
The course is one of a series of training events conducting by MADA Center throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with the support of the Foundation For the Future(FFF), to help better defend journalists’ rights.

Several workshops have already been held in West Bank and Gaza strip . and more workshops are planned over the next months.

The participants said the training was valuable because it deepened their knowledge of media laws and procedures in the Palestinian territories – laws which can help to protect journalists against harassment, threats and intimidation.
