MADA: Alqadi targeted by the occupation, which is another crime against journalists
Ramallah – 2nd march 2013: Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemns targeting the Photographer Jihad Alqadi by the Israeli Occupation Forces during his coverage of the clashes between Palestinians and the Occupation Force, front of Ofar Prison near Ramallah, on the evening of friday 1st March 2013.
Alqadi (23 years old) wounded by a bullet which entered his abdomen and exited his back, which caused him severe injures in his colon and spleen, a mild injury in his liver, and bruises in his lower breastbone, this formed a major threat to his life and had to undertake an emergency surgery which lasted about four and half hours.
Khaled Alqadi reported to MADA- Jihad’s brother who is staying with him at the Ramallah Government Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) - that his brother’s condition is stable now but he must stay under supervision in the ICU, “My brother is still under the influence of the drug, where doctors prefer keeping him asleep. It was a difficult surgery and doctors were forced to eradicate part of the colon”.
MADA wishes a speedy recovery for Alqadi, and we call on the international community to intervene rapidly to protect Palestinian journalists from the systematic targeting of journalists carried by the IOF.
